Tate

Tate Publishing: Tate asksĀ the author to contribute about $4,000 with the promise that Tate will then chip in $15,700 to $19,700 of its own resources to make the book a success. Tate also claims that if an author sells 5,000 copies of her book, not only will her investment be returned, but her next book will be published for free. The glaring problem with this bright scenario is that Tate has an awful time itemizing clearly on paper exactly what services are worth upwards of $20,000. And it also becomes a little clearer why the 5,000-copy clause: Tate earns a fair-sized profit on both author copies and retail sales.
